And back to yesterday’s menu; All flame rilled! Although I had to lower the fire by nearly putting it out at some point, it was huge and way to hot. The steel grill under was glowing and starting to deform.

-Black pepper striploin steaks

-Lemon Butter Chicken

-Chocolate Chilli Stingray (though slighty fail..)

-Mango and Banana salad

There was steamboat etc on top of it. BBQ-ing with the forest behind you lets you experience many things; From hungry monkeys to mad, screaming cyclists.

Once again, I wish all my chinese friends and readers a louder-than-mewing year of the tiger!

Well, after so much inactivity, I’ve got somethings to do. Gotta plan a small bbq menu for my family. Dad wants something out of the ordinary..and I’m thinking of deer. Haha. That’s probably something wayyyy off and hard to get.

Other menu (of sorts); A dessert platter for a Lunar New Year gathering at Marina Barrage with me Unicorn V&R unit and some leaders. Since there’s already gonna be pizza, what the heck.

isn’t all bad. When truffles fail, you get fudge.

Its a simple reminder that when things go wrong, it goes back to its roots, and its roots aren’t all that bad. Maybe something went wrong along the way? Or maybe its just bad luck. Answers can wait. But regret is never worth.

Solace in silence

Well mates, its been sometime yeah? Pretty much haven’t been cooking and all due to certain family reasons. Its been hectic. My small solaces nowadays are big hearty breakfasts with two mugs of tea. Though I had a total of about 6 today, that’s an entirely different story.

But yeah, I really do miss my own cooking. And I truly realised that a few days ago when I had the chance to cook my own dinner, coming back to an empty home. “Empty” doesn’t imply that its missing that touch or something. There’s a certain peace and tranquility to coming back and being able to just do your stuff about in silence and in atmosphere. It wasn’t anything fancy; just a cttage dish of pan fried fish over potatoes, a small salad and sauted mushrooms on the side. Classic, simple and hearty. Just like what I think home should be.

No, haven’t been anywhere else since Indonesia, sorry haven’t been posting. Been up to a few things:

Lemon and herb salt; very useful for seasoning fish. I like mine over eggs and toast. Just get some salt, a bit of lemon juice (not enough to dissolve it of course), zest and dried herbs. You could always use a processor and whiz it about. Then leave it out to dry and for the flavours to intensify.
Lemon pudding, as well as corn custard. Made this on new year’s eve since I didn’t head for the countdown, but to a dear’s place instead for a couple of movies.

Well, some of you might know the agony I faced last night when things didn’t go well…Thanks to a couple of friends and my dear girl, I had a nice sleep-over-it. And today turned out quite okay, though Istill do hope you enjoy them Wendy & Co. !

Price woes

Well, I’m in Jakarta now as many of you might know. I’ve said it before, this is kind of a place of extremes.

Anyway, dropped by a supermarket in a very upscale shopping center (mind you, they can deny acess to people who they think are not “up to standard” per se) after a short, tiring trip to gym. Prices of things I take for granted like olive oil, celery, or even just good salt and pepper are extremely expensive. These things are like, three t five fold of the prices at home. But on the other hand, herbs like parsley (even italian) or local meat and poultry are quite cheap. Bought marinated chicken fillets yesterday for dinner, it was about $6 for FOUR PEOPLE. That’s at least half the price at home. A big bunch of parsley was less than a dollar, although three times the amount.

And I overheard a similar conversation between other singaporeans in..the gents.

Didn’t manage to do much cause I was running out of time. Anyway, this pudding is great when in a rush for events; I made mine in muffin cups. so it took only about 40 minutes a batch. Preparation time is about…5minutes? haha. This went to Farahani’s chalet/bbq. Had great fun, thanks again (:

Well, I’ll be meeting an old friend this Friday after at least 3 years of not meeting her. What’s a holiday chalet without food, and what’s a whole lot of food without dessert? So after factoring in many factors and doing a little research, (A pack and a half of leftover bread from last night’s BBQ and a way to make someone accompany me included) I’ve decided to make Caramel Bread and Butter Pudding. And to make it convenient for everyone, including myself so I won’t have to lug a glass dish from the other end of the island, I’ll be making it in muffin cups.

P.S.: If anybody wants to try some (provided I have extra) I’ll be more than happy to share. Just leave a message or post on my Wall.

Well, lilian came over after a little shopping for tomorrow’s BBQ. Taught her how to make cookies, and it evolved from chocolate chip to chocolate chip plus plus. Plus plus being milk chocolate, rainbow balls, koko crunch and nuts. Maybe there’s more, I can’t remember.
